The ASSEMBLE sofa designed by destroyers/builders encourages exactly what its name suggests: to assemble your own sofa. The asymmetrical cushions are assembled into different sofa-elements; there are single seaters to choose from, two-seaters, corner elements, poufs and side tables to play around with. Depending on the configuration of your ASSEMBLE sofa it can be understated, luxurious, classic or modern.

_a sofa debut

For Linde Freya Tangelder, the founder of destroyers/builders, the ASSEMBLE is a sofa debut. “It was the most complex object I have ever designed. And the largest for that matter. It was challenging to combine my preference for architectural contouring and very tactile materials with rather practical necessities as sitting comfort, foam density and extreme detailing.”

_tactility is key

In the choice of possible upholstery for ASSEMBLE, tactility was key. “We chose a vibrant beige and grey melange of colours in both cotton and wool, depending on the climates in different markets around the world.” The ASSEMBLE accessories provoke the same hot and cold juxtaposition. The brushed aluminium of the side tables being the cold against the warm backdrop of soft and rounded cushions.

Linde Freya Tangelder (1987) is a young conceptual designer based in Antwerp & Brussels who founded her design studio Destroyers/Builders in 2015. As the name suggests, Linde Freya deconstructs design to rebuild her own visual language. In 2019, Linde Freya Tangelder was awarded with the ‘Designer of the Year’ award.
